Roman Reigns won the 2015 Royal Rumble in the midst of a whirlwind of boos. Fans couldn't digest the fact that their favourite, Daniel Bryan, had been eliminated. The red carpet to Wrestle Mania had just become a pathway of thorns for 'The Powerhouse'. Even an appearance by family member, The Rock, did nothing to boost his achievement.

The outrage that engulfed the WWE Universe when Reigns emerged as the Royal Rumble 2015 winner, pushed Daniel Bryan into the Wrestle Mania equation. At stake was the WrestleMania title shot that Reigns had earned by winning the Royal Rumble. In a hotly contested match at Fast Lane, Roman Reigns defeated Bryan and defended his "right".

It seemed impossible to think that Roman Reigns could become the new WWE Champion at Wrestlemania 31. The WWE Universe, for the most part, was against the idea. Reigns, however, refused to melt. Speaking of the Herculean task of conquering the 'Beast, Reigns commented, "You're looking at the man who's going to do it. I can...and I will...Believe that!"
Boy, did he put on a match! I can't imagine anyone watching it and not appreciating his audacity. Unfortunately, Seth Rollins cashed-in and turned the one-on-one encounter into a triple threat match. The juggernaut was stalled in his tracks; the dream would have to wait. Seth Rollins owned the night and walked away from the spectacle as the new WWE Champion.
Roman Reigns' shadow lingered over the WWE title throughout 2015. A failed opportunity against WWE Champion, Seth Rollins, at Payback, was a dampener, but interference by Bray Wyatt, that cost him the lucrative Money-in-the-Bank contract at MITB 2015, made the hopes of a title run seem dead.
On October 26, in the lead-up to Survivor Series 2015, Reigns won a fatal-four-way match on RAW to become the No.1 contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. But if the past was anything to go by, 'The Powerhouse' would not have it easy. An injury to Seth Rollins led to the title being vacated and the institution of a tournament to determine the new WWE Champion. Reigns speared his way to the final and clashed with Dean Ambrose for the gold.
